US markets survived a late market buffeting to finish higher, adding to yesterday’s strong gains. The market became increasingly nervous in the afternoon with reports that EU officials are split on how to structure Greece’s second tranche of bailout funds
The US Senate approved a bill late Monday afternoon to allow for further funding to avoid a government shutdown. The bill now rests with the House of Representatives with political analysts expecting it to be passed
The Dow was up as much as 325 points at one stage before pulling back. Adding to the news, all ten S&P500 sectors finished in positive territory
Leading the gains on the Dow were HPQ, DIS, CVX and UTX gaining 3.87%, 2.84%, 2.24% and 2.24% respectively
Dow Jones 1.33% S&P500 1.07% NASDAQ 1.20%
EUR has stabilised in the last few days with expectations of a plan to stabilise markets imminent. EUR is trading above 1.3660, GBP is pushing 1.5700 and the AUD has rebounded moving to a 0.9985 high
Commodity markets rallied, gold jumped 1.5% and Crude surged 4.3%
