Markets trade slightly lower in reduced session $DXc1

  • In a reduced session after the Thanksgiving holiday US markets initially started the day stronger before weakening on news that the Greek Government is demanding private investors take a bigger haircut on their debt. Also adding to investors concern was rating agencies S&P’s downgrading of Belgium’s debt
  • The S&P500 finished down for the 7th session in succession on thin volume. Consumer staples and utilities led the gains while energy and technology stocks led the moves to the downside
  • The biggest shopping day of the year ‘Black Friday’ passed over the weekend with retailers hoping it will provide a boost to retailers
  • Leading the moves on the Dow was CVX, HPQ and CAT which finished down 1.56%, 1.51% and 1.19%. TRV managed to rally 1.23%
  • Dow Jones –0.23% S&P500 –0.27% NASDAQ –0.75%
  • The USD rallied to a 7 week high against the EUR. AUD above 0.98
  • Gold ended the session down 0.6% and Crude rose slightly, up 0.6%
